Skeena Terrace Master Plan
Skeena Terrace is home to a diverse community on 4.4 hectares in Vancouver, and includes a terracing landscape designed by Cornelia Hahn Oberlander, but its 1960s-era buildings require extensive repairs. The plan preserves the site’s mature urban forest while introducing a network of greenways and accessible paths that connect new housing and communal outdoor “neighbourhood rooms.” These landscaped courtyards and plazas support social connection, active mobility, and ecological resilience. Anchored by the recreated Skeena Hut and enhanced community facilities, the landscape design reinforces a sense of place, continuity, and inclusion —creating a welcoming, equitable environment for a diverse and growing community.
The project has been awarded the RAIC 2024 National Urban Design Award.
The work was completed while Joe was serving as the Design Associate at PWL Partnership.
