Minoru Centre for Active Living
The outdoor space at Minoru Centre for Active Living in a unique and inviting public space designed to promote healthy living, social interaction, and environmental sustainability. The space serves as a key part of the city’s broader efforts to create livable and vibrant public spaces that encourage community engagement and outdoor recreation. The space includes walking paths, fitness equipment, a children’s playground, and a variety of seating areas, providing ample opportunities for exercise, relaxation, and social interaction. In addition to its recreational offerings, the space also boasts a range of environmental features, including sustainable landscaping, rain gardens, and a water feature that doubles as a rainwater harvesting system. These features not only enhance the aesthetic appeal of the space, but also help to manage stormwater runoff and promote ecological health.
The project has received the following honors: the Recreation and Parks Association Facility Excellence Award – BCRPA 2023; the Bill Woycik Outstanding Facility Award – RFABC 2022; and the Distinction for Accessibility Award – ICO/IPC 2021.
